*New York State Auto/Car Insurance Coverage Laws Explained We have two types of insurance in New York State required of every motor vehicle. One deals with no fault insurance, which pays for medical benefits, lost wages, and some out of pocket expenses, regardless of fault. The other is liability insurance and they are not the same. What I want to urge each of you, is that you cover yourself as well as someone who is involved in a car accident with you. And by that I mean, if you carry 0000 worth of liability insurance, your protecting me, if you hit me with your car. If you get into a collision with another car, and you only have ,0000 worth of underinsurance coverage, then you’re protecting yourself only to the extent of 000. It pays for you to make certain that your underinsurance rates are as high as your regular insurance coverage. The cost is minimal and the protection is priceless. Now with no-fault insurance your medical expenses are paid. Within 30 days of the auto accident, you are required to notify your insurance company that you have been involved in a automobile accident. They will assign a claim number to your case. You will give that claim number to any treating doctor/physician or any other medical provider and they will bill your insurance company directly regardless who is at fault in this car accident. Your insurance company will submit you to a physical examination by a doctor of their own choosing in about 30 days after you start receiving …

Question by sportylilchica1: Is it illegal in the state of NH for a full time student NOT to be covered by their parents health insurance?
I’m required insurance for sports and other campus activities but I am not covered by my parents Health Insurance yet they have me under Vision and Dental through my fathers work.

I was informed a while back that they were changing laws around that Full Time Students have to be covered by their parents Health insurance (until age 24).

Is this true? Or Do you have any advice on finding cheap student health insurance? :/

Best answer:

Answer by StephenWeinstein
No.

The change in law gives the parents the option to have the student covered, if the parents want. It does not require the parents to have the student covered. It only gives them the choice.

If you want cheap heath insurance, then you probably have to get regular health insurance. In other words, whatever health insurance you would have gotten if you were not a student. If you only consider “student” health insurance, then you might have to pay more.

I was starting to fill out the Mass form to get health insurance (unemployed, looking for work) which is a law now. I saw that it said that if you are awarded money because of accident the state can take some of it. And if you are 55 or older and die the state can get money from your estate. Why? This doesn’t happen with regular insurance or welfare, does it? I’m not 55 yet, but still…I don’t understand why the state is making me pay for something that will benefit it. Also you have to notify within 10 days after your income changes. What if I get a job with the temp agency and then it ends and something else comes up? I can’t find this info online anywhere, so if anyone else in Mass has any answers, I’d be grateful.
Of course I know that they are greedy. I just don’t understand how this law could have been passed with these rules.
And I only signed up because it was a law. I wouldn’t call fining me $150 a month starting in 2008 something that benefits me.

I just graduated with a bachelors degree, and my student health insurance runs out in August. The health insurance offered by my husbands job (which won’t open up to me until Jan.1 anyway) considers pregnancy a pre existing condition, and won’t cover it.

We have been searching for affordable plans, but the only ones we have found that will cover pregnancy aren’t accepted in New York state. For all the plans offered in NY that we’ve been able to find, none cover pregnancies in progress. I would hate to have to use the state provided health care plan for pregnant mothers (mostly because I feel like there is no reason for me to be part of a government program when we are capable of paying for our own insurance, but also because it means we have to go to specific clinics and I won’t be able to keep my doctor), but there is no way we will be able to cover all the costs of a birth, especially if for some reason I need a C-Section or the like.

Can anyone give me some advice, especially as it relates to the NY state health plan for pregnant women?
Excuse me? Are you saying that if you had a medical problem RIGHT NOW you would be able to afford it out of pocket?

That’s the point of insurance. We are more than capable of paying insurance premiums, are are currently doing so. However, the large lump sum that would be required as an out of pocket expense is NOT something we could afford. I would like you to know that we currently have no debt other than one $2000 student loan, and are perfectly capable of paying for our own expenses.
