Question by David S: where can i go for group health insurance?
I need to find a group i can be insured with because i will no longer be able to have preexisting conditions covered under an individual plan. i’ve been told there are professional or other types of organizations which I could belong to, for which group insurance is available to their members. i’d join any organization if i could qualify, to obtain insurance. i have worked in the accounting, IT, hospitality, management, business and wine industries… Thanks
Could someone give me the name of an organization to contact to obtain group insurance?

Best answer:

Answer by Zarnev
There is no such thing no matter what you’ve been told. That had been tried in the past but failed big time. There were many reasons for the failure but the biggest reason is these plans by nature were more expensive than individual plans becuase only those with pre-existing conditions would join, which would drive up the premium and cause the companies underwriting those plans to loose so much money that they stopped.

There are plans that use associations and the phrase “group insurance” as a marketing gimmick but they are low value high priced plans and will still will decline to cover your condition.

If you cannot find an individual plan you can look into a Pre-existing Conditions Insurance Plan (PCIP) which is a recent result of the Healthcare Reform Act. You can find more information at this government website: http://www.pciplan.com/applicants/eligibility.html

My employer is offering group insurance. My individual insurance seems like a better deal but everyone keeps saying group is better? Why is this?
I do not have insurance now. my employer is not going to pay any portion of it, but he says by having group it will ensure that I not be dropped if it turns out that I do have something serious. I don’t feel that i am in good health and I haven’t been to a doctor so that I won’t be diagnosed with any pre-existing conditions. The group insurance is very expensive compared to an individual plan. any advice?

Best answer:

Answer by Flower
It is cheaper and does not have limitations for pre-existing conditions. Why is your individual insurance better? Dont you have a deductible?

There is some reason why people say birds of a feather flock together. It is like an extended familial tribe. When you are working together as a team, efforts to have a group health insurance cover is the perfect way to redeem unforeseen casualties that may fall upon unexpectedly. It is easier to advice a single individual or even a family but when it comes to a group it is hard to give advice. But some companies do choose to explain and answer queries. While it is clear that group health insurance is a must, how much and for how long with affordability is the tricky part. Group health insurance in most cases is provided by the employer to his/her employees. It is a very good scheme to provide uniform and cost effective health insurance to the group of people, associated with a particular organization.

Being in a company and also being insured is tricky. What if you are in between jobs, or a solitary reaper (cannot avail extra cover for) spouse, or have spouse who is already covered in another group insurance, have children covered in other health plans…. the list could be unending. An online counselling or direct counsel helps in clearing most doubts so that you are not paying double for single covers in any group. If it is a big organisation the premiums are extremely low. Which is fine but does that benefit you at all, is the critical issue? Large government organisations reap benefits for employees and so do private ones.

So how do you make a choice? When you are confronted, choose the price as the least priority. Check if the plan covers all parameters you are looking for in the group. Any group plan that covers all your needs is good enough. Group health insurance is big business. The insurance company gives more value added services to insured members. Factors like age, medical history, don’t matter for groups. The premium and benefits are standardized. Under group insurance a member will normally remain covered as long as he or she continues to work for a certain employer or a group, and pays their insurance premiums. Group health insurance is much superior to costly single plans. Another distinctive feature of bringing a group under one umbrella is- a member of the group is eligible to purchase or renew coverage within the group subject to conditions.

A small business organization normally consists of 2 to 50 employees; and it is the endeavor of the whole organization that combines to bring success to the organization. What if an employee falls ill? Yes, your whole organization will be affected and thus might put a negative impact on the output. Here, comes the benefit of purchasing a small business group health insurance policy.

We all will agree that the cost of medical treatments is on a rise and for a simple treatment; you need to shell out hundreds of pounds from your pockets. This might land you up in heavy financial burden. So many people avoid going to doctors and later on these small ailments turn into complications. Same happens in a small business organization. Because of the high cost of medical treatments, the employees of a small business organization might not go to a specialist for routine check-ups. This might prove detrimental to the organization. A Small business group health insurance will ensure that the employees in an organization are provided with adequate benefits to take care of their health.

Earlier small business group health insurance was not so common, because the rate of premium of these insurance policies were generally higher. But, these days there are many insurance companies that provide with cheap and affordable small business group health insurance. Otherwise, many a times it is seen that the premium is equally divided between the employer and his employees.

In a small business group health insurance policy, the employees will be provided with a list of doctors and in any case of illness, the employee can consult those doctors. This way you can evade the tension of searching for doctors.

Apart from that many a times the employees’ family is also covered under small business group health insurance. Illness in one’s family can also affect the work of an employer. So with a comprehensive small business group health insurance policy the well being of an employee’s family can also be taken care of. Even an employer can avail the benefits of a small business group health insurance.

Before investing in a small business group health insurance, you need to do some research for yourself. You have to do an extensive research of the insurance market and later you can even compare the policies. After that you can buy the policy that is fitting into your budget. With internet facilities, you can perform this task at an ease. You can collect various quotes from the different companies and later on choose a policy that will suit you the best. So go get a small business group health insurance now!

Question by miss skittles: Iam pregnant and group health insurance is ending this year?
My work decided to discontinue our group health insurance plan and are switching to individual health insurance. The insurance i signed up for does not cover maternity. Iam about a month along and live in wisconsin if that helps any. Just wondering what options are out there for insurance. With my boyfriend and i, i dont think we would exceed guidelines for badgercare from what i understood on their website.

Best answer:

Answer by StephenWeinstein
There are no insurance options that cover maternity for someone who is already pregnant when she gets the insurance. There are only insurance options if you get them at least a year before you get pregnant. It is too late now.

If you do not already have insurance that covers maternity before you get pregnant, then the only options are to pay for all the maternity care, yourself, with your own money, without using insurance, or to get an abortion.

Article by Elliot Bigman

When considering small business health plan options for employees, take time to talk with an experienced insurance agent who can lead you through the many health plans available for employees.

Many health plans already cover the insurance agent’s commission in the cost of the health care plan, thus companies should take advantage of the expertise and knowledge an experienced insurance agent can offer. When choosing between the many health plan options available, employers can actually save time and money by consulting with an established insurance agency before investing in medical coverage plans that best suit their employee’s needs and the company’s budget.

Studies have shown that one of the benefits of providing group health insurance for employees is the increased retention rate for a quality workforce. In these days of high gas prices and increased costs, offering health insurance at the workplace is a big incentive for many who cannot afford individual health insurance coverage. Investing in your company’s future healthcare can increase loyalty, and overall employee satisfaction, productivity, security, and of course, employee health and fitness. The cost and options of these plans vary according to group size and the state in which your insurance company, or provider is located.

Group health insurance plans start with at least two full time employees and because of healthcare reforms, every state is required to offer this coverage in the workforce. The many health plan options vary greatly and employers have a choice in what medical coverage they can afford their budget; from basic coverage, to plans that cover preventive care and dental coverage. The many options offered in managed care plans, or HMO’s, and fee-for-service plans can be very confusing.

Employers must decide how much they can invest and what type of medical services they can afford for their employees. HMO’s are designed to offer reduced rates by using a select group of doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers. Employees must stay within that network when getting medical care. Fee-for-service or indemnity group health plans allows your employees to choose their providers. They in turn have control over their choices of doctors and specialists and many options in who they want to visit for their medical services.

A large percentage of those insured are employees which enables insurance providers to offer a variety of small and large group health coverage plans. For companies with 2-100 employees, and large companies with 100 plus employees, there are several factors which affect the cost of the insurance premiums. Larger companies have an advantage because of their size and can often select reduced premium plans that offer basic medical coverage for the employees. Some health plans have higher co-pays for the employees and only cover medical care within the managed network of healthcare providers. Many plans charge higher premiums, but cover more medical services for the company’s employees.

Investing in group health insurance for your employees is a major decision that needs professional advice and planning. A healthy and productive workforce can increase company profits and worker productivity. With an experienced and reputable insurance agent, your company can have the help and expertise to consider all the insurance options available based on your budget, the medical needs of your employees and the costs of medical services in your state. This is an important service for employers who need to comparison shop for the best health plans available for their company employees.

Article by Sharma

Offering a well-conceived, reliable and patient-friendly health plan is essential both for attracting clients and retaining good healthcare professionals. Employers should also know that good healthcare benefits provided to employees will keep them healthy, increases productivity and less staff turnover.

Many small businesses however do not understand the need to offer good group insurance policy to their staff. According to the nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation, only 59 percent of small businesses with less than 200 employees provided group health insurance. As health care costs escalate, small business owners are finding it increasingly difficult to afford the premium amounts. Moreover, insurance companies apply higher rates to small businesses when compared to larger companies.

While serious efforts are being made for universal health care or at least some kind of major healthcare reforms, it is necessary for both health insurance companies and insurance seekers to do their bit to realize this laudable goal.

Health insurance policies provide all types of schemes and plans. But the two broad categories of insurance are individual and group.

Individual health plans are meant for individuals and their family members. These policies generally require a detailed medical history to know of any preexisting conditions. The plan’s cost depends on the applicant’s health status and lifestyle. Applicants with serious or chronic medical problems may be denied coverage.

Group health insurance covers a number of individuals under one master policy, which is availed by an employer, a professional organization, a union, or other associations for providing cover to their employees/members. Today, a peculiar phenomenon is being noticed. Because the rates of health insurance for small businesses are rising steeply, individual workers may be able to get cheaper coverage by availing individual health policy than the group policy can provide.

The category of group health insurance offers a number of different plans, including defined networks, fee-for-service plans, and health savings accounts. Defined network plans (also called as managed care plans) allow the employees to pick doctors from within a prescribed group or network.

Under Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), members receive care from medical providers who are enlisted by the HMO, usually from within a specific geographic area. Under HMO, specialist services can only be procured if the primary care physician makes a referral. Under Point of Service (POS) plans members visit health care providers within a defined network and require a referral from a primary care physician in order to see a specialist. But unlike HMOs, POS allow enrollees to visit doctors outside the network, on condition that the enrollee pays a higher percentage of the bill. Under Preferred Provider Plans (PPP), enrollees pay a certain amount to visit the network doctors and a higher amount if they wish to go outside the network. In general, PPP offers less choice than POS, although members need not get a referral to visit a specialist.

Over the past few years, Health Savings Accounts (HAS) or tax-exempt accounts that employees use for certain kinds of medical expenses, are becoming popular. In some states, employees also can use their HSA to save for retirement.

Employers can make tax-deductible contributions to his employees’ HSA, which will make the plan more attractive for the workers. HSA is regulated by the federal government, which each year sets a minimum deductible and maximum out-of-pocket cost for these plans.

In recent years, both small and large businesses have started keeping the costs of their health plans down in various ways. One of the most popular ways is to institute wellness programs at the job. The wellness programs include posting information on the benefits of exercise, nutrition, and other health topics.

A wellness program might actually entail encouraging employees to adopt healthier lifestyles. In the long run, wellness programs can suppress the cost of group health plan because employees will be less likely to become sufferers of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.

All good employers understand the need for their staff to have group health insurance. All will know the importance and peace of mind to staff that having group health insurance means, they will also see it as a staff retention tool.

Those employers that do not have group health insurance are missing out on the loyalty factor that comes with having good employee benefits. Research shows that after a company car, health insurance is second as the most valuable employee benefit.

Is group health insurance expensive?

When you consider that if a key member of staff contracted a serious illness or disease how long they might be off work for then group health insurance could pay for its self in no time. Staff members would get private treatment for curable diseases or illnesses quickly and would not have to wait in lengthy NHS queues. The loyalty that this type of insurance brings cannot be priced.

What does group health insurance cover? Group health insurance or company health insurance as it is sometimes called is designed to help employers reduce the burden and cost of employee absence on their business. Through helping employees stay healthy so they are less likely to be absent from work, helping them return to work as quickly as possible. Many of these company plans also offer a range of added value benefits such as a 24-hour GP helpline and health and fitness club discounts. Another common feature of these group health insurance plans is the addition of family cover, where members can add their family members to the policy. Sometimes the employer will pay for this additional feature and sometimes the staff member is required to pick up the cost themselves. Whichever way it is paid for it will most likely be cheaper than taking out a separate policy for the family. When considering group health insurance solutions employers would be wise to seek the advice of an independent financial adviser who can research the entire market to find the cover required for the budget and needs of the employer.

Article by Dana B. Smith

Many firms and businesses now realize that it is essential to retain good employees by providing them the best of benefits and incentives. These benefits can be provided through a number of ways and one such method is providing group health insurance. While this is a good method for firms and businesses to rope in good employees to their pay role, these companies should understand the in and out of group health insurance in order to make the appropriate choice. So, it is vital for any company to thoroughly study the various options that are available.

Group health insurance can be taken up by any firm or business that has an employee strength of a minimum of two and maximum of fifty. Based on the budget that is available, two different types of health insurance can be chosen. Many companies choose to provide the coverage to the employee under the group health insurance. But, if the employee wants to include his/ her family under the plan, then the additional costs are usually borne by the employee for the added benefits.

One more important feature that needs to be considered while choosing group health insurance is to opt between managed care and fee-for-service. Managed healthcare plans again have different options depending on your budget and include Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), Point of Service Plan (POS) and Preferred Provider Organization (PPO).

If HMO is opted for, the total costs to provide health insurance will go down if the medical treatment is got under the providers of the HMO. Under a PPO plan, the patient will not need to see a primary care physician to use the services of a specialist. Although PPO plan is much more expensive in terms of per-visit and deductibles yearly, it is much more flexible. The POS plan includes features of both HMO and PPO plans. Here, the insured can either visit a hospital or physician within the prescribed network by paying a flat fee or consult someone not in the network by paying a deductible fee. This plan enables the patients to choose the physician or hospital themselves and provide more benefit in being able to choose the place they need to go for treatment.

By having an added perk in the form of group health insurance, you can ensure that your employees will remain faithfully with you and will also ensure that you can rope in more good employees to your company. Group health insurance has many facets attached to it and what has been elaborated here is just a basic picture. Be sure to talk with your service provider and get to know about the benefits and disadvantages of each and every plan in detail before actually choosing any plan that you wish to pass on to your employees. In this way, not only will you be answering the health needs of your employees, you will be doing so in the best possible way that suits you and your budget.

Many people opt for California group health insurance because it is far less expensive than individual insurance plans. This is why employers group their staff members together when purchasing a company policy rather than purchasing an individual plan for each person. Simply put California group health insurance gives people the opportunity to save money. It also provides an opportunity for individuals, smokers or obese people to get coverage that is within their budget when they might otherwise be charged dramatically higher rates.California group health insurance will save you a lot of money even if you have a health condition that would either make individual health insurance too expensive or too difficult to come by. A group plan is a good way of lowering your costs without reducing the quality of coverage you will receive. Since the risk of the plan is spread out across a large group of people, the insurance carriers are able to provide these lower rates without hurting their own bottom line. It works for everyone. California group health insurance works much differently than California individual health insurance, California kids medical insurance or California family health insurance. Group medical insurance ends up being much cheaper and affordable than individual policies would be for each member. The members of the groups that are insured are reimbursed or covered for many of the charges for doctor visits, surgeries, or any other medical expenses. The insured people have a choice of hospitals or doctors in many cases, such as with the fee-for-service plans. In managed care plans, however, the carrier will be more specific in planning the health coverage of group members. Prior approval from the insurance company has to be made before admitting the insured person to a hospital. There are many different types of California group health insurance to choose from. The great thing about these plans is that everyone in the group will be covered for far less than what they would pay if they were on their own.

Article by Michael Chapman

Affordable group health insurance can be a great money saver for cash-strapped families in modern society. The rising costs of “fee-for-service” healthcare makes even a check-up become an economic hardship to many families. These fees are so high because most medical practices cater to insurance companies. These companies “write off” a portion of what they are charged, so doctors and hospitals inflate the cost of services. Unfortunately, in this system, those without affordable group health insurance bear the brunt of healthcare costs.

Group medical insurance costs are based on probabilities. An insurance company realizes that a certain portion of each population will become ill or require medical services in a given month. Their goal is to collect enough fees to cover these costs, their running costs, and to post a profit. In return for your contribution to this pool, your health costs will be partially covered when you require medical services.

Every insurance company has a different policy on how much they will cover. Some insurance companies might be having a concept of a compulsory deductible which means that you have to pay a part of the expense. Some others may have a requirement of fixed amount for each office visits and some may cover only a percentage of the medical costs.

Affordable group health insurance can be obtained if one’s employer or spouse’s employer provides this service. Health insurance companies usually approach employers with the aim to provide discounted health insurance to workers. The employer may pay portion of the fees for the insurance as a fringe benefit to employees and the employees pay the rest which result into affordable group health insurance. You can check with your human resources staff to know about the availability of this scheme at your place.

Children – your dependents – also may be covered under your health insurance. There is usually an open enrollment period during which an employee may add his or her spouse and children to the insurance policy for a slightly higher fee. When you or your spouse gives birth to a child, you can also immediately add the newborn to your insurance policy in most locations.

You can join a group for getting the suitable medical insurance in case you are self employed person or your employer is not offering affordable group health insurance. To find various options for getting medical insurance, search internet for keywords “individual medical insurance” or “open group health insurance” and you will definitely find a matching group of your choice.

If you are looking to save money on your healthcare, look into group medical insurance. You can either get it through your employer, or just personally, but regardless, if you have group medical insurance, you will be paying much less than you would be paying out of pocket.

Group health insurance has been one of the greatest things that has happened to families in the past few years, group health insurance gives entire families health insurance coverage because one of the family members has insurance at work, and through that one person the entire family can receive coverage. This type of health insurance can be very helpful for families where there is only one parent taking care of the family or only one parent working. Without affordable group health insurance many families would be falling apart trying to keep their children and families healthy. When children are young they are very susceptible to sickness and illness and often need to go to the doctors office for sick visits, so under an affordable group health insurance policy they are covered by the insurance company when they get sick. This type of insurance also helps parents stay healthy when trying to raise their children while maintaining a full-time job. Children look up to their parents and watch what they do in situations and try to emulate them when they are growing up, and by parents demonstrating good methods when it comes to being sick and receiving proper care will help children learn to do the same thing.

Group health insurance is normally one of the least expensive types of insurance, which makes it relatively affordable for families, and in many of these cases the employer pays the entire cost of insurance. For many employers there is an option of different types of plans, some of the different types of affordable health insurance plans are fee-for-service, health maintenance organization, or even a preferred provider organization. Fee-for-service is normally a popular choice for many employees who are looking for affordable group health insurance because not only gives coverage and doesn’t leave families with the burden of high costs of medical bills, but it also is a pay as you go, you aren’t required to pay a monthly rate which can sometimes can be too costly for families.

One of the biggest questions asked about group health insurance is what happens if you quit your current job that is providing you and your family affordable group health insurance? Normally the group health insurance is terminated, unless you want to pay for it individually which can become very costly. Although, there are laws requiring companies of 20 people or more to offer health insurance to employees for 18 months after they are fired or quit their job, which is something you definitely want to look into when you are looking for affordable rates. You will be charged a higher premium then when you were working but for many families this is the difference between staying insured and leaving family members without any insurance. So in essence it is very important for people to remain on their same insurance if that is an option after leaving a job.

        Small Group Health Insurance Florida

Florida group health insurance provides medical coverage for individuals who are part of their employer’s insurance plan. These plans give you and your family the ability to receive treatments and preventative check-ups for typically at a lower cost than if you were covered under an individual health insurance plan or have no coverage whatsoever.

Small group health insurance in Florida is available to any company that employees between one and 50 employees on a full-time basis, and has made a profit in one of the last two years.

Eligibility

In order to qualify for a group health insurance plan in Florida, you may need to meet certain criteria as specified by your employer. For example, you may need to be a full-time employee working at least 25 hours per week. You may also need to have worked at your company for a certain amount of time, such as three months, before being eligible for benefits.

Group health insurance plans typically assess the risk of an entire group – everyone in your company – rather than that of an individual when determining insurability. This means that you are generally not required to take a physical examination or answer medical questions in order to qualify for coverage in a group plan.

Types of Plans

Group health insurance in Florida is typically offered as managed care or indemnity plans, with managed care plans being the most commonly offered type of plan. Indemnity plans, also referred to as fee-for-service plans, specify a maximum amount of coverage for each type of service after you have paid your deductible and/or co-pay amount.

Managed care group health plans typically cost less than indemnity plans by offering affordable deductibles and/or co-pays without having to handle your own claims. These plans include:

Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO) – In this type of plan, the insurance company works with participating health care providers to render services at discounted rates. You are encouraged to use a physician within the network but have the freedom to choose an out-of-network provider for a higher deductible and/or co-pay. Additionally, most PPOs allow you to see specialists without having a referral from your primary physician.

Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) – These plans provide coverage at a predetermined or fixed fee that often pays for services performed by participating health care providers for a small deductible or co-pay. In some instances, you may have no deductible or co-pay whatsoever. Also, some HMOs may allow you to choose your own physician but at a higher deductible and/or co-pay. Generally, your primary physician – also referred to as a gatekeeper physician – determines if you need to see a specialist.

Point-of-Service (POS) – A POS plan is similar to an HMO; however, you have more freedom to choose a health care provider outside of a network and generally do not need a gatekeeper physician for a referral to see a specialist.

Covered Conditions

Each plan specifies which conditions and procedures are covered, along with the amount of any co-pays or deductibles. Florida group health insurance plans usually cover:

Routine check-ups and physicals
Broken bones
Diseases
Surgery

Pre-existing conditions

Under certain conditions, Florida group health insurance plans will cover pre-existing conditions that were previously treated if you were part of another group health insurance plan or if you have been covered by your current plan for a specified period of time. Additionally, group health insurance plans guarantee portability of coverage. This means that should you change employers and meet certain criteria, you can continue receiving full coverage even though you may have a pre-existing condition.

Premiums

Florida group health insurance plans may or may not be paid entirely by your employer. In some cases, you may be responsible for paying a portion of a monthly premium; however, your payment is typically made with pre-tax money from your earnings. If you have dependents listed on your policy, your premiums generally will be more expensive than single coverage.

Choosing a Plan

Having medical coverage is essential. As you choose a Florida group health insurance plan for yourself or for your employees, read the policies carefully and review everything from the premium costs to the list of available providers. Take into consideration co-pays and deductibles and how often you and your dependents may need to visit health care facilities.

So far I feel healthy enough but some friends suggest me to take group health insurance. I need more information about it.

Best answer:

Answer by tinman97prn
At a minimum, you need some kind of insurance to cover you in case you do run into an expensive problem. So a policy with a high deductible will be the cheapest and won’t offer much for small day to day doctor type visits.

If you are looking for affordable group health insurance for low costs one of the best places to look is online, there are great deals around every corner as well as many people who are more than willing to offer their expert opinion about the type of group health insurance you should get for your company. There are many different types of deals for insurance that you can find both online and through insurance companies near your home. When you are trying to decide what type of provider you want for your affordable group health insurance needs there are a few things you will want to keep in mind.

The first thing is how many employees you have in your company. You will be able to purchase Affordable Group Health Insurance from most companies if you have more than 2 employees. This is great for companies that are very small or just starting off because you will be able to offer your employees wonderful deals that will give them huge incentives to work for your company. Also, when you put the number of employees you have into the equation you also will be able to help group insurance companies to figure out estimates for you as well as your employees on how much insurance will cost for them. Employees will greatly appreciate this because in a time such as this where the economy is struggling one of the most important things is being able to afford health insurance; many families are not offered group health insurance rates that are affordable to their family and by offering group health insurance rates to your employees you will be giving them a window of opportunity that they otherwise wouldn’t have when it comes to health insurance from themselves and the family.

Another thing you want to keep in mind when you are looking for group health insurance is that unlike individual or family health insurance group health insurance is different. While individual and family health insurance needs a doctor’s appointment in order to check the healthiness of the person or persons being covered, group health insurance does not. The reason is normally with group health insurance there are more than just a few people covered, this is how group health insurance is able to keep their prices low and affordable. The reason why individual or family insurance needs a medical exam before they insure the person is because if anything is wrong with the people insured than the insurance company is going to end up paying much more than they want to, with affordable group insurance there is a balance of healthy and unhealthy people so the company’s costs are lower because more people are insured by the company.

Most individuals get group health insurance through their employer. The employer pays part of the monthly premium and the employee pays the rest. Individuals not covered in an employer group plan or choose to opt out of such a plan usually purchase an individual health plan for themselves and their families.

Ohio Individual Health Insurance

Individual health insurance in Ohio includes indemnity or managed health care plans. Indemnity plans offer a greater choice of health care providers. In managed-care plans, health care providers in the health insurance company’s network provide services at fixed rates. Managed care means less paperwork and lower out-of-pocket costs for the consumer compared to the indemnity plan. The best individual insurance option is a low premium, high deductible health plan.

Ohio Group Health Insurance

In Ohio, group health insurance is very different from individual health insurance. In the case of group insurance, a group of employees are insured together under a plan that the employer chooses. It is the health of the group as a whole that determines the premium that each employee will pay. Group insurance plans are guaranteed issue.

Individual or Group Health Insurance?

A group policy that your employer offers is a better option if you have a medical condition like diabetes or arthritis. However, if your spouse and children are young and healthy, the premium for an individual insurance plan could be much lower compared to the group insurance plan that your employer offers you. This is because group rates usually depend on the average age and health on the entire group which could mean to a higher premium for each member of the group. Moreover, with the economic downturn, employers have begun to cut down on their share of the premium, making group policies quite expensive.

If you have to choose between an individual health insurance plan and a group plan, the best solution is to seek the advice of a professional insurance agent who is well-informed in all matters relating to individual and group health insurance for Ohio residents.
