Individual health insurance with fibromyalgia?
I have fibromyalgia, was diagnosed years ago. I have not had insurance for about half of that time. Does anyone know how to find affordable individual health insurance with a preexsisting condition? I have foun d plenty of plans that will cover me eventually but I cannot afford to pay the insurance premium and my doctors visits and prescriptions while I wait six mths to a year to get covered. Please do NOT suggest e-surance, they do not have affordable plans that cover pre-exsisting.

Unfortunately that condition is uninsurable for most carriers on an individual basis. The only companies that would insure you are health benefits (discount) carriers or MRMIP but those are very expensive as well. I know its a tough situation to be in but the only other alternative is to get benefits thru an employer because those policies are guaranteed issue. Best of luck!

Yep, online health insurance websites, for the most part, harvest your personal info and sell it as leads.
Most plans won’t take you at all – so if you found some, you’re in a guaranteed issue state, or a state with a high risk health pool. That means, they’re GOING to have to price it, according to your risk.
With what you have going on, that’s PROBABLY your best bet. Insurance companies can’t swap $200 a month in premium, for $800 a month in known payouts, and even more for a bad flareup or serious health condition, and stay in business.
You could sit down with a local health insurance agent, but they’ll probably tell you the same thing. You have an expensive preexisting condition. Companies that cover those, on the cheap, are called “bankrupt”. Only government programs – financed by the taxpayer – can cover them. Sorry.

i was able to get a indivdual BLUE CROSS plan that covered me and my fibro for about 500/month—but it was immediately after i left a group plan

If you live in a state that has risk pool insurance, this may be your best option. Risk pool insurance is a state-sponsored plan for persons who cannot be covered by traditional insurance because of pre-existing conditions.
Risk pool insurance will not necessarily be affordable, but you will be insured, usually with very reasonable deductibles.
