No insurance (unless you're one of the beautiful people towards the top of the food chain) is as good as it used to be, but insurance through the university is still the best option if it's available. Of course, the insurance company still only really cares about the money, but the university can generally negotiate better terms and they, generally, heavily subsidize the cost. Actually, the student health insurance available through the university is probably your best bet.
